INVITATION TIPS & MONEY SAVING IDEAS FROM BRIDES & GROOMS

Submitted by Duckys Formalwear

How far in advance should I order my invitations?

It is recommended that you order your invitations three months prior to your wedding, so you have time to address and label them. as well as have time to send the invitations out, and get responses back in time.

When should I mail my invitations?

Six weeks before your wedding is the ideal time to send out the invitations, in case you have some family members and other guests who may be late in responding

How long does it take to place the order for my invitations?

When ordering your invitations it takes approximately 1 hour to select your invitation and determine how you want the invitation to appear.  To save yourself time, simply have all of your information at hand. This includes:

  • Church Address

  • Time of Wedding

  • Reception Hall Address

  • Reception Times (cocktails, dinner, etc.)

I can't think of verse ideas. What should I put down?

If you need verse ideas, etiquette guidelines, or addressing information a recommended website to visit is www.verseit.com.

How many invitations should I order?

Make sure to double check your guest list.  A common mistake is when couples try to order invitations for each person on their guest list.  Be sure to take into account the number of households and guests that will come as couples.  For most couples the quantity ordered should be approximately half the number of guest plus at least 25 extra.  You don't want to have a bunch left over, but you don't want to cut it too close either.

     What is a "corner copy"?

A corner copy is a little saying, on either the bottom left or right hand side of the invitation, which explains where and when the reception will take place.  This can be used in place of a reception card to save a little money.

How will I know that my invitations will come in as ordered?

The place where you order your invitations should ask you if you would like a proof of your invitation before they place your order.  If they do not ask, or they do not have this service available, do not order through them because if there is a problem with your invitations you will be recharged for having to reprint the order.  No one wants to spend more money than necessary so check to make sure you can see a proof of your invitation before continuing.

How long will it take for my order to come in?

The average completion time for invitations is 7 to 10 business days after approval of your proof.

What should I do about programs? Do I need to order them?

Programs are not a necessity for your wedding day.  It depends on what is right for you.  You could order them through the place you ordered your invitations but they will be expensive.  Many office supply stores and Internet sites offer paper with wedding designs, flowers, and other appropriate designs that generally cost less.  Many couples elect to print their own programs, or enlist the services of a computer-savvy friend.
